Freya Solnordal

Theatre-maker, video game developer, and experience-driven human

About Me

Studying a double degree in Theatre and Games Development at Monash University, Freya is known by those around her both personally and professionally as “the video game theatre person.” With a strong interest in interactive storytelling, Freya works as an emerging director and game developer to combine these two mediums, experimenting with theatrical form to find new ways to tell stories and create live shared experiences using virtual environments.

Her live, interactive theatre show audiences connected to by playing multiplayer Minecraft, Asynchrony: An Interactive Minecraft Experience (developed with Monash Uni Student Theatre), won awards at both the Adelaide Fringe Festival (2022) and Student Network Experience Awards (2023). On the video game specific side of things, Freya has a strong love and affinity for game design and programming. She was awarded the 2022 Professor Cliff Bellamy Award for achieving the highest grades for second-year undergraduate study in the Monash University Faculty of IT, and has topped her cohort in various game development subjects.

Freya also works as an independent lighting designer and technical operator, runs theatre classes via Minecraft for kids in rural South Australia with the Riverland Youth Theatre company, and was the leader of the #SaveOurCTP Campaign in 2020, advocating against Monash University’s decision to disestablish their Theatre and Performance department.
